Cooling the Future of Compute: Our Investment in Corintis
Today we’re proud to share that BlueYard led the $24M Series A for Corintis, a Swiss startup reshaping how chips are cooled at the most fundamental level. We had already led Corintis’ Seed round in 2022, and us leading two rounds in sequence is a testament to the team’s execution and our conviction in the company unlocking the next step function growth in compute power through better cooling of chips.
The round comes alongside a group of industry leaders, such as Lip-Bu Tan — who joined as a board member prior to beginning his post as CEO of Intel. It also marks a major step forward for a team that is already deployed in data centers on the latest generation of AI chips; and is ramping up production to meet customer orders for millions of cooling loops.
Why does this matter? Because the future of AI is running into the laws of physics. The chips training today’s models consume an order of magnitude more energy than those that powered the early versions of ChatGPT. The result: excessive heat generation has become a critical bottleneck for chip performance and one of the biggest cost drivers for cloud data centers.
Corintis met this challenge head on. Their microfluidic cooling technology etches microscopic channels into silicon, guiding liquid coolant to the regions of a chip where it’s needed most. The result is more effective heat removal, lower water consumption, and the ability to bring vastly more powerful chips online.
Earlier this week, Corintis announced its partnership with Microsoft — proving out the value of its microfluidic cooling technology at scale. Together, they demonstrated an in-chip system that removes heat three times more effectively than the best solutions in use today.
Our conviction in Corintis comes from a simple observation: progress in compute has always run up against physical limits. For decades, Moore’s Law delivered speed and scale. But as transistors shrank, performance stalled under the weight of heat. Cooling was the bottleneck. Corintis is the breakthrough.
At BlueYard, we seek out the n-of-1 founders who confront mission-critical limits like this one head-on. Remco, Sam, and the Corintis team embody that ethos, turning a constraint that defines the edge of progress into the foundation for what comes next.
